“But your name is Dale,” I said.

“So?” Grandpa shrugged, then started laughing and wheeled away.

“Touché!” I said jokingly. I’d heard people say that on TV, after they call someone out about something. I didn’t know what it meant, but it sounded cool. Dad looked at me with a raised eyebrow.

“Do you even know what that word means, Peter?” he asked.

“Nope,” I said.

Dad patted me on the head. “Grandpa Dale makes a good point. We all have lots of stuff to think about, and still more to learn. Go grab some bowls and some spoons. Meet me in the dining room for ice cream.” Gavin and Felicia took off running. Ice cream can have that effect on people.

“You’re the best, Dad,” I said.

“I’m not,” Dad replied, “but I try my hardest, and that’s what counts. Teamwork isn’t always easy, but in the long run, it makes things better. Remember that, will you?”

“I promise,” I said.
